The problem
Weak subgrades, steep slopes and retaining structures need tensile strength the soil does not have. The reinforcement supplies it for the design life, with creep allowed for in the long-term design strength, at a junction strength that survives installation.
What to specify
- Short-term tensile strength (EN ISO 10319)
- Long-term design strength after creep (EN ISO 13431, ISO/TR 20432)
- BIS IS 17373:2020 — geogrids for reinforced soil retaining structures
- Soil–grid interaction coefficient for the fill
- Reduction factors for installation damage (EN ISO 10722) and durability
