How it works
Retech drain cell is a lightweight, high-strength modular drainage cell made from polypropylene, designed for sub-surface drainage and for protecting waterproofing membranes. It is used under terrace gardens, planters and podiums, behind basement retaining walls, under landscape decks, in pond filtration, on sports fields and in agriculture and horticulture.
It protects the structure: the cell layer shields the waterproofing from the backfill and from damage during construction, and takes the water off it. Without drainage, water held against a wall carries salts from the soil into any crack and speeds up its deterioration.
Only excess water is removed, so the growing medium above keeps the moisture plants need.

What is a drain cell?
A lightweight polypropylene panel with an open cell core, also called a drainage cell or drain cell mat. Laid on the waterproofing under soil or paving, it carries the load above and gives water a continuous path to the outlets.
How are drain cells laid on a podium or terrace garden?
On the finished waterproofing: drain cells first, a filter geotextile lapped over them, then the growing medium and the planting. Outlets are kept clear and the geotextile is lapped up the upstands so soil cannot enter at the edges.
