The problem
Water that sits behind a basement wall, under a podium or terrace garden, or inside a landfill pushes, weakens and corrodes. The drainage layer has to carry it away faster than it arrives, keep mud out, and survive being buried.
What to specify
- In-plane flow capacity at the design load (EN ISO 12958 / ASTM D4716)
- Filter geotextile requirements (EN 13252)
- Compressive behaviour under the fill height
- Resistance to the chemicals in the ground
