Wire gabion

Five layers. A wall that lets water through.RETECH RWG wire gabions — as built for river banks, slopes and bridge piers.

Foundation and bank

Excavated below scour depth and levelled. The bank behind is what the wall holds.

Geotextile filter

Behind and under the baskets. Water passes; the soil of the bank stays in the bank.

Grade on request

First course

Galvanised double-twisted hexagonal mesh, filled on site with hand-placed stone and laced shut.

Mesh on request · Wire Ø on request

Second course

Stepped back on the course below. The wall flexes with settlement instead of cracking.

Top course

PVC-coated mesh where the water is saline or acidic.

What it is

Gabion boxes of galvanised and PVC-coated wire mesh, made by Retech Geosolutions in Gujarat and supplied across India and for export.

Galvanised double-twisted hexagonal wire mesh boxes, filled with stone on site. They form permeable, flexible retaining walls and river-bank protection. PVC-coated for saline or acidic conditions.

Applications

  • Riverbank protection
  • Seashore protection
  • Slope and landslide protection
  • Bridge pier protection

Wire mesh gabions

Gabions are baskets of galvanised, double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh. They can also be made from Galfan wire, a zinc–5% aluminium alloy.

For polluted or aggressive conditions (salt water, fresh water, acidic soil, anywhere corrosion is a risk) the mesh is PVC-coated.

Filled with stone on site, gabions form flexible, permeable, monolithic structures: retaining walls, channel linings and weirs for erosion control.

Questions buyers ask

What is a gabion box?

A basket of galvanised, double-twisted hexagonal steel wire mesh, filled with stone on site. Stacked and tied together, gabions form flexible, permeable retaining walls and protection works.

Galvanised or PVC-coated gabion?

Galvanised for normal conditions; PVC-coated where there is salt water, acidic soil or pollution, anywhere corrosion is a risk.

Gabion wall or concrete wall?

A gabion wall drains through itself and flexes with settlement without cracking, and it uses stone found near site; a concrete wall is slimmer but needs drainage behind it. The right choice depends on height, loads and site, and Retech engineers can compare both for your section.
